A photograph can lie.

The smile and expression belong to you

Enjoying the wide horizons of a sunny afternoon

There was no sign of the image cracking and the underlying

horror creeping through.

I still, even after all this time, ten minutes, ten days,

ten years its longer, I know

can’t grasp that the nature of your presence

has gone beyond my reach.

There are often points in the day when

I make a  mental note to give you a ring and say

“hey you’ll never guess…”

Maybe you will. I imagine

Your spiritual presence, stays  connecting us in some way.

For now the photograph is you and I will follow your gaze.

Former Picture Editor, sometime photographer and poet. Now looking after Undercliffe Cemetery. A Grade 2* Listed Heritage Site. A Victorian jewel in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
